Two (Awesome) New Members of the SeeClickFix Family!

Wednesday, August 14, 2013 - By Anonymous - 1 comment

Today, we are excited to announce two new SeeClickFix partners. In case you don't follow us on Twitter, you may not have heard that both launched early this week, adding a new partner on each side of the country.

With over 200,000 residents, Chula Vista adds to our many awesome partners in California--not to mention at time of launch tons of already-active members.

Stockbridge, Georgia is a great city in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and another Georgia partner we couldn't be more excited about, who've already gotten started reporting neighborhood issues.

Stay tuned here for more info on these two new friends of SeeClickFix, and if you have any questions in the meantime please don't hesitate to contact us.

To Change Lanes or Not to Change Lanes?

Friday, March 18, 2011 - By Anonymous - No comments

In our last blog post, we wrote about WBTV's investigation into an issue reported via SeeClickFix in Charlotte, NC. The local television station is now looking into another complaint in the same area.

This time, an anonymous user posted about the confusion many residents face while driving on North Tryon Street:
There are three lines riding up North Tryon from East Mallard. But, when you come up to the Bloom plaza that third line is really block off for you to get over in the Left lane then if your turning onto J.W. Clay then get back over in the Right lane which turns into a turning lane. Well, the problem here is that numerous people ride that lane out. I'm a safe driver licensed in GA and you will get a ticket riding over the other white lines. So, if they can just fix it and make it a third right turning lane, I will be so happy.
Another SCF user, D. Reis Daniels, agreed that the road needs to be addressed:
I almost get hit every time I use that lane because i am trying to get over where it is marked and not by riding out the crossed off lane. It is VERY unsafe. There have been MANY close calls there.
According to WBTV, there are "somewhat faded stripes, a solid lane marker stripe, and right turn arrows painted on the road." Some drivers cut across those stripes while others switch to the right lane after already passing them.

Viewed over 370 times, the issue has not been fixed since being reported five months ago. WBTV decided to contact the North Carolina Department of Transportation and received promising feedback from Jen Thompson. She said, "Our plan is to remark the lines that separate the two thru lanes from the right lane, but we will also change the lane markings to indicate a thru/right combination lane up to Normandy Drive, then dropping to a right-turn only onto Normandy."

"The contractor will be removing the existing right arrows and cross hatchings across the lanes," Thompson added. "They will be replaced with the right/thru combination arrows, skip lines, along with right arrows and the word "ONLY" approaching Normandy Drive." The news outlet said the work should begin in early April.

Keep the momentum going, WBTV!

SeeClickFix on The Local East Village blog

Tuesday, December 7, 2010 - By James Matthews - No comments

Today we have launched SeeClickFix on The Local East Village (LEV) blog, a collaboration between The New York Times and New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute to cover New York City's East Village.

Using SeeClickFix, the LEV hopes to raise awareness about different issues in the East Village. This collated information is directly available and can be viewed from the East Village watch area on the LEV site.

We hope that local government officials, neighborhood groups and private individuals will sign up to receive notifications about posted concerns. Anyone can also follow posts within the East Village area via @SeeClickFixLEV on Twitter.

As journalists, we particularly hope to use the information to help us report more effectively on neighborhood concerns and draw attention to them.

We look forward to hearing what our neighbors think most needs fixing in the East Village.

James Matthews is a contributor to The Local East Village and a member of the student development team for the blog. He is a graduate student at New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute.

The Blogosphere is So Hot Right Now

Thursday, May 15, 2008 - By Kam Lasater - No comments

Looks like we got picked up by another local blogger. They end with a great quote:

this site gets two thumbs up for trying to help make my life better.
http://hobohaven.wordpress.com/2008/05/13/awesome-new-website-for-nh-complaintswith-the-goal-of-actually-fixing-them-oh-joy/

That is awesome as far as we are concerned. Its great to have the positive feedback. Good thing we have Google-Alerts running here at SeeClickFix otherwise we might have missed out on the nice pat on the back.

An issue we have seen is that each community that has started embracing the power of SeeClickFix to empower their communicty, thinks that the site was built for them. One of the mottos we had from the start was "local every where from day one". Personally I didn't realize how much people would just begin interacting with our site with such a sensation of local and personal ownership.

Things are really clicking along here at SeeClickFix. We've started generating more buzz and as Ben has already posted, we are seeing some real traction with our widget offerings. Check out the multi platform code at WidgetBox. The excitement is palpable.

Earlier this month our service offering got picked up and written about by a local online news outlet, The New Haven Independent. Here is the link to article.
